When Riley had her one year check up about six weeks ago our pediatrician, Dr. Mark, told me that she was teething her molars. I kind of laughed to myself b/c she only has two bottom teeth. Usually, they get the top four and bottom four before they start getting molars.
Not Riley. She does things a bit different.
For starters, she got her top two front teeth before the bottoms. It is rare that the top ones come in before the bottom ones do, but they did. Then she popped out the side ones on the top. That's been months now and we've been waiting for the side ones on the bottom to pop out. Waiting and waiting.
Fast forward to this morning. We're at the pool with some friends and the kids had just eaten lunch. It was Erin's birthday so we had cupcakes after lunch to celebrate. Riley was getting antsy so I swiped a little bit of the frosting off of Jack's cupcake and put it in Riley's mouth. Ouch. She bit me hard, left a dent in my index finger.
She starts wigging out for more icing so I swiped my finger again (thank you Jack for not being a pain in the you-know-what about it) and this time I decided to put my finger in the side of her mouth, where she only has gums (or shall I say, HAD gums).
Yes, she has a molar. If you're looking at her mouth it's the first one on the bottom left side of her mouth. I could not believe it. All four tips are in and I never knew it. This is a good thing, because it means she's an easy teether. Molars were a killer for Jack. He subsisted on Motrin during teething time. Not Riley. She just popped that thing in all on her own. I have this thing about putting fingers in babies mouths, it's gross, so I never dig in her mouth to check for teeth. Guess I better start checking her out more often huh?
Until next time...
