From one season to another...

The writer inside of me needs to come out- so not much chat about the kids- here's just a good ole piece of writing. My former students would be proud of me, that I still do this once in a while. So please, let me indulge.

We are on the cusp of summer, like a lilly, waiting to bloom. I cannot wait for it to officially be here, for the flower to blossom into full bloom. Spring is still teasing us, blanketing us with cool mornings, but filling our afternoons with warm sun and gentle breezes.

Daylight begins before 6:00 and ends way pass 8:00- plenty of time to fill our days with outdoor activities, pushing bedtime back just a bit. Golfers are out in full swing and the buzz of lawnmowers sizzles through the air. My, summer is arriving.

I love summer. It loves me. We get along. I was blessed with dark skin, so the sun treats me right. Summer and I are friends for many reasons, here are just a few...

... sweet white corn on the cob, slathered with butter.
... cart rides to the beach, stopping by to count the alligators.
... the smell of suntan lotion, lathered in between Riley's rolls.
... a good novel, not the serious kind, but the this-is-trash-but-I-don't-
care kind.
... juicy ripe tomatoes, sprinkled with salt, eaten solo.
... July 4th, parades, fireworks, good eats, family.

Don't get me wrong, by the end of August, I'll be ready for preschool to kick in, but I will enjoy the summer. This should be a good one.

Until next time...
I'm off to watch the finale of Grey's.
