Life Lately

It's hard to believe it's already August 4th.
One month ago was July 4th.  One month.
Time is flying.
School starts in less than three weeks for Jack and Riley and two weeks later for Hadley.

I feel like I haven't properly blogged in ages.  Lots of fun pics from our time at the beach and in Maine and Boston but that's about it.

So what's been going on?

Guess I could go kid by kid - we'll start with the youngest.

Hadley.

Man - I tell you.  She's been a hot mess lately.
If she wasn't such a good sleeper now (after two years of crappy sleeping) I'd be about ready to pull my hair out.
Her most recent tactics include hitting, spitting and calling her brother and sister "butt" when she's mad.   Sadly that name calling came from overhearing her brother and sister fight.

Just this AM we were in Fresh Market and I'm getting a salad and I hear her spit and yell "butt" to Riley- who was only trying to help her.
Poor Riley - 95% of the time she does so well with Hadley and Hadley is a beast back to her half of that time.

I keep thinking - nine more months of the terrible twos!

But - on a brighter note she's napping like a rock star - two to three hours a day and sleeping from 8:30 until after 7:00 every night.   She gives me no problem going to sleep and goes to bed just fine for a variety of sitters.  Just last night our sweet 14 year old neighbor gave her a bath and got her ready for bed with no problem.

She's been super into swimming, building Lego's, playing golf in the yard with the big kids and riding her 'bikes.'   Anything Jack and Ri do she has to be able to do.  Always.

Just this morning jack and five of his buddies were having a Nerf Gun fight in the entire house.  She was right there in the thick of it and the boys were great with her.  They included her and played with her.  Not sure who enjoyed it more.

She is currently growing like a weed.  She's up to 30 lbs and a size 7 shoe.  Her size 3T clothes are all small on her.  Every single one of them.  I refuse to buy her any more summer clothes so she'll just have to squeeze (tightly) into her 3T's.

Her eating habits are horrendous - she still hates breakfast food.  Recently we've been making smoothies so she will drink those (sometimes) or maybe eat some scrambled eggs but that's it - besides her milk.  Can't live without that.

Riley.

Oh Riley- she has been such a huge help this summer.  Really playing with Hadley so much.  It helps me so much when I am trying to cook etc…

Riley went to an all day camp last week with a couple of friends and played tennis every day and swam and golfed two of the days.  She loved it so much and now wants to play tennis more.  Not sure how we're going to work that in the schedule but we'll see.  Maybe in the spring.

This week she's in a team camp for soccer every afternoon from 4:30-6:30.  It's super hot but she's really enjoying it.  As much as I'm not into soccer I enjoy seeing Riley so excited about something.  She's on a higher level team this fall and it's a much bigger commitment so we'll see if she continues to like it in another month.

Practice for her starts next week- Tues/Thur from 4:45-6:15 and Monday's at 6:00-7:00.

Her and Jack have been at each other's throats lately.  Ri always has to have the last word so it makes their relationship challenging at times.   I hope one day they'll realize how lucky they are to have each other.  So lucky.

Jack.

Well, well.  Jack has been busy recently.

He tried out for 6th grade middle school football last week and made the team.   After the littlest guy was cut from the team, Jack is officially the littlest.  He knows it and is working hard to prove himself.  I am not sure how much playing time he'll get once games start but it's really fun to see him so excited and work hard.   It doesn't hurt that lots of his good friends made the team so they're getting to spend lots of time together.

The practices are intense and he comes home a hot sweaty mess every night.   Lots of suicide drills, bear crawls, running etc… in full pads and a helmet.

Three straight weeks of 6 days a week practice, one week with 3 practices and then a scrimmage!  Whew.  Once school starts he'll have two/three nights a week practice and games every Saturday.  And he is playing baseball!  Yikes.   Thank goodness that's only on Sunday's a one/two nights a week practice - which he will def be missing some.

All middle schoolers have to read two books and take tests before school starts.  Jack rocked it out on both of his tests this summer with 100s.  Let's hope that continues once school starts.

As for me… I am anxious for school to start.   The kids are getting antsy and summer is slowly coming to a close.  2 1/2 more weeks.  I need to get back in the gym on a regular basis - this summer has been a hot mess.  Haddie starts swim lessons in September.  We need her swimming next year for sure!   Jack wears uniforms this year and he's all set but the girls need some clothes - especially Haddie.

That's it for now.

Until next time….
