New York City

I think three words about sums it up for Todd and I this past weekend: food, friends and fun.  We ate until we could eat no more, were so blessed to see lots and lots of our Yankee friends (and even a couple southerners too), and had the time of our lives.

Seriously.  It was one of the best weekends we have had in a long time and we cannot wait to do it again.

Here’s a bird’s eye view of our three day food/friends/fun binge.

I landed in NYC around 4ish on Thursday, hopped in a cab and made my way to the hotel where Todd and I stayed on Thursday night.  The Marriott Marquis hotel was nice, but in the MIDDLE of it all and a bit too busy for us.  But Todd had to stay there for work so no complaints, right?

As luck would have it one of my oldest and dearest friends Rachel and her husband David were in NYC celebrating his birthday at the same time we were there.  We met them in Tribeca at a fabulous Asian restaurant, Macao, on Thursday night.

Food: delicious.

Fun: TONS.

Friends: awesome.

Great night, for sure.

Friday a.m. we putzed around the City, doing some touristy stuff: sight seeing, shopping, picture taking.

Here’s the view from outside of our hotel:

We walked over to Rockefeller center and tried to sneak a peek at the Today show but damn if those cops make you keep walking… argh.

Of course you can’t go to NYC in December and not take a few photo ops w/ the tree.  This pic doesn’t do it justice, whatsoever.

We popped in to a gorgeous cathedral and lit a candle in honor of a family friend who lost his life last year.

And then we walked around some more so I could take some pictures.

We stopped by Trump Tower.  I’ve been in Donald’s big hotel many times but still am in awe of it’s beauty each and every time I see it.

Ahhh- the toy store.  The piano toy store.  Love this place.

After walking around the city and saying goodbye to our southern friends it was time to head downtown where this was destroyed and meet up with a northern friend at his office.

We hopped on the train and took a quick 12 minute ride into New Jersey to their apartment in Hoboken.

Their brownstone apartment was about the nicest apartment I’d ever seen.

The boys, of course, took less than a minute to pop open an adult beverage.

While I admired their apartment…

And the brick walls.  Love them.

Here’s Allison and I, one of the owner’s of that adorable brownstone.

And here’s her other half, Cal.

After a ridiculous dinner Friday night at this place (I had lamb sausage pasta- yummmy) we got up the next morning and walked to breakfast at the Turning Point.

This diner was fabulous.  The food was unbelievable and the view was even better.

We sat at our table and looked over the Hudson River (right where the plane crashed) and into New York City.

Saturday afternoon we headed back into the city and met up w/ more Yankee friends at a bar in SoHo, watched some football, and then headed over to this family style Italian restaurant in Little Italy.  Another great night with great food, fun and friends.  See for yourself:

We ended the night at some random bar where lots of movies/shows have been filmed.

The kids?  Where were they?  Hanging w/ their Gammy and Poppy.  Bless their hearts, having to deal w/ our crack-of-dawn-waking kids.  They survived and I think (as least I hope) had a nice time bonding w/ our kids.  Jack and Riley had a blast and I am sure they enjoyed some one on one attention from their grandparents.

We’re hoping to do it again next year: same time, same place, same people.

Until next time….
