In less than 33 hours it will be 2010. Wow.
I cannot cannot cannot believe that it is 2010.
Seems like only yesterday I was 18 and graduating high school. But it wasn’t.
It was SEVENTEEN and a HALF years ago.
My- I am old.
Let’s see…
Eighteen years ago I was jumping for joy, having been accepted into the University of South Carolina on November 8th, 1991.
Seventeen years ago I was a college freshman, living with the messiest roomie on Earth, but boy, did we ever have fun. My grades were the pits but the memories of freshman year: priceless.
Sixteen years ago I was a college sophomore, cruising around in my Honda Civic to various colleges in the south, visiting all of my friends. And making the best friends of my life. Not a worry in the world. It was the one semester in college I almost made a 4.0 (a 3.9 instead).
Fifteen years ago I was a college junior, living in a fabulous off campus apartment with three other awesome ladies, about to turn 21 and finally be of legal drinking age, not that my age had stopped me before. Nope.
Fourteen years ago I was a college senior, in the midst of a furious year of playing catch up. I changed my major over halfway into college and needed to take several ‘extra’ classes. I had ditched my Honda Civic and was the proud owner of a brand new forest green Saturn now.
Thirteen years ago I was a college senior- again. This time I was taking all of my undergrad education requirements. I was about to briefly move back home- only lasted two months. It was M.I.S.E.R.A.B.L.E.
Twelve years ago I was tending bar, waiting tables, drinking cocktails and lovin’ life. I was taking a ‘year off’ before grad school and taking just a couple of electives. Fun-fun year.
Eleven years ago I was living alone – waist deep into grad school and poor as poor could be. I was in two weddings and nowhere close to a wedding myself.
Ten years ago I was on the fast track to marriage myself, having met Todd in March of that year and starting my new teaching career in Myrtle Beach, as a 4th grade teacher.
Nine years ago I was still teaching and spending lots of time with our first child, Kodiak.
Eight years ago I was planning a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard, about to move to Columbia, buying our first house and had the worst two students of all time in my class.
Seven years ago I was a newlywed, living in Columbia, SC , teaching 7th grade English and about to be pregnant w/ our first human child, Jack.
Six years ago I had just celebrated my first Christmas as a mom and gone back to work after maternity leave.
Five years ago I retired from teaching, moved to Charlotte, met lots of new ladies and was chasing around a 15 month old rambunctious little boy.
Four years ago I was pregnant with our only daughter and spending New Years on Martha’s Vineyard, very ill w/ morning sickness. Ugh.
Three years ago I was the mother of two and living a new house in Charlotte. One we will hopefully live in until retiring to the beach.
Two years ago I was still the mother of two. And quickly realizing I was only going to be the mother of two.
One year ago I was almost 35 and starting to pursue my photography hobby with a vengeance. Life was good.
And still is.
Happy New Year everyone.
Until next time…
