Sunday we trekked down to Columbia to one of my old stomping grounds: University of South Carolina. Todd’s cousin Craig is the head coach for the women’s volleyball team at the University of Kentucky. Craig’s family joins him on this annual trip so we always head south for the day and spend time w/ them.
It’s so nice to be able to get the kids together and see Craig’s team in action. This year UK is undefeated in the SEC and has only lost one game overall. They are having a great year and we are lucky we get to see the team play at least once a year.
Poppy and Gammy drove up from the beach so we all met at a local restaurant for brunch and then we had some time to kill before the match so we tried to go to a quaint little park on USC’s campus. Tried- that is. We hopped out of the cars and walked over towards the sculptures and swings and guess what we saw? BUMS- seriously- homeless men asleep on the big swings. Unbelievable.
Needless to say we hauled A double S out of there. After another failed attempt to find a place to have the kids/dogs run around we ended up heading over to the arena and the kids played outside for a bit.
It was a seriously exciting match. I am sure it was too much of a nail biter for Craig but UK pulled off the win in the final moments and the kids had a blast. Jack was mesmerized and Ri was a bit freaked out from the loud music and USC mascot at first but soon loved it.
We are hoping Craig and family head our way for a quick trip at Thanksgiving and then we’ll also get to see them down in DeBordieu over New Year’s.
Here are some pics from our time down South- Carolina- that is.
Until next time…
