Riley Monroe

For those of you who blog here's a question? Do you find yourself listening to what your children say and thinking to yourself (or out loud) "I need to blog about that?"

I do. All the time.

I need to write a post titled "Rileyism's" because some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth lately is so darn funny. Problem is I when I sit down to write about her 'isms' I can't recall most of them. Except for this one:

Yesterday I had to get in the shower early since I had to be up at Jack's school at 8:15 for a meeting. I was sort of in a hurry and said to Ri- "I am going to take a quick shower- go play with your babies." (The boys were already gone for the day.) Now I knew good and well that hell would freeze over before my attached-t0-my-hip-daughter would go off and play in the playroom while I showered.

But I gotta try right?

She proclaims- "Mommy- I want to take a shower with you." Not really having time to deal w/ her in the shower I remind her "Ri- I am going to take a really quick shower."

Smarty pants tries one more time: "But Mommy- I only want to take a MEDIUM shower!!!"

A medium shower? For real?

So- guess who hopped in the shower? Miss Medium.

Just remembered another 'ism.'

Ri has entered the one-up stage of childhood. I remember when Jack was in this stage. You know the one. The one where they say things to their friends like:

"I am taller than you."
"I can reach higher than you."
"Guess what- I got to ride on a ferryboatsupershuttlebusairplane....."
"Guess what. I am a rock star and you're not." Just kidding on this one- but you get my drift.

This one-up-manship is a totally normal part of childhood and Jack got through it fine. He understands the whole 'bragging' thing and I hope we've taught him that it's rude to be like that with his friends.

But Ri- she doesn't get it yet. We've talked about the word 'bragging' a few times and tried to give her examples.

So- the other day she says to me: "Mommy- it's not nice to say potty words. It's not nice to say 'Im taller than my friends.' That's DRAGGING."

Dragging.

She was serious too.

Now- let's see if these little life lessons are used. I hope so.

Until next time...
