Just so when I am old I won't forget...
It's weird how some things the kids say or do I find myself saying- rather mumbling- to myself "I need to blog about that."
Not that anyone cares- but some things I blog about so I won't forget the little in's and out's of my children. Their little idiosyncrasies, their accomplishments, their good moments, their bad moments. One day, it is my hope, they will log in to my blog and spend hours and hours laughing, crying, ohmyGoding, remembering, relishing and just plain enjoyin' the words I wrote.
And- God forbid if something ever happens to me before I am ready to go this blog is my legacy to them.
Now- I did not mean to get all sentimental- it just came out.
I really only wanted to write two things down Jack and RiRi said today- just so I wouldn't forget, you know?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: Ri- how was summer camp today?
Ri: I pee peed aaalll over the floor two times mommy. (with the sweeeping hand motion-and
with a smile)
Me: Really?
Ri: Yes- and I went pee pee in the potty too. But I didn't want Mrs. Heins to see it.
Me: Ohh. Well- tomorrow I want you to go pee pee in the potty at school and after you wipe
yourself and pull up your shorts go tell Mrs. Heins that you went potty and show her before
you flush.
Ri: Ok- I will.
--- Really? The only reason I want her to 'show' Mrs. Heins is so Mrs. Heins can have proof that my peeing-in-public-phobia child just might NOT be telling a small story.
--- And- my neighbor picked her up today and did verify this story. She brought home Ri's not one but two soiled shorts and undies and told me about Mrs. Heins hearing the toilet flush and seeing Ri come out but not seeing her go potty.
--- We'll see what tomorrow brings.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: (as Jack was building some contraption in the sandbox after dinner) Jack: how was your
summer camp today?
Jack: It was fun. I loved it.
Me: What was your favorite part?
Jack: (smiling) My favorite part was when Gabe (his camp counselor) told me I was the fastest kid in the whole camp.
Me: Wow- that's pretty cool.
--- Not sure if he was the fastest kid in the camp- but the kid can zip around like wild fire. He proceeded to tell me that they had some races and he won most of them. Hummm? I'll have to ask about that one tomorrow.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One more thing: Let me brag for a minute.
Jack read the entire book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess tonight all by himself. No help from me.
We have been reading that book on and off for a couple of years now. The last few times we read it we 'tag teamed.' He would read the 'short' pages and I would read the long pages. Well- last night he read most of it. (I actually skipped a few pages since I was super tired- he didn't notice). Well- tonight he held the book so there was no page-skipping by me and he did great. He read the entire book- cover to cover- word for word.
I will tell you that I did NOT help him w/ one word and he read the sentences w/ question marks and exclamation marks correctly. Crazy.
My little man is so darn proud of himself. He wants to bring the book up to Martha's Vineyard so he can read it to everyone. (I'll have to warn them that it takes him about 15 minutes to read it).
And of course- I am pretty darn proud of him. His reading is skyrocketing lately. I cannot believe it. We've been reading lots since our last trip to the beach and I can tell it's helping him.
We are going to work on The Cat in the Hat next.
That's it for now.
Until next time...
