See what no nap can do ....

This summer Jack and Riley have been going to Childwatch for the first time. It's the 'babysitting' service the local YMCA offers while mommies and daddies work out. It comes with your monthly dues so it's totally worth it, plus they offer lots of fun activities and gym time for the kids. Using Childwatch has been a blessing b/c not only am I not getting up at the crack of dawn every day but it's been giving us something to do this summer.

Jack could give or take it, but he always has a buddy to play with, usually our neighbor Ashlyn. Riley loves it and gets excited when I tell her she's going to Childwatch. Talk about different kids.

Twice a week the Y that we go to offers an exercise class for kids ages pre-k to rising third graders. Jack really likes it. They stretch, run, jump, do push-ups, sit-ups, compete in relays and little races and play fun games, like Swim Across the Ocean (Jack's fave).

You can tell he's on the young end of the spectrum. In fact- the instructor today asked me how old he was b/c they've had some injuries lately. I reassured her that he was almost five- even though he doesn't look like it. No worries- she told me. Watching him try to follow multi-step directions just reassures our decision to delay kindergarten by one year.

Anyway- back to my point- Childwatch. While Jack takes these classes Riley goes to Childwatch so I don't have to keep an eye on her and I can enjoy watching Jack.

Sooo- today. First of all- the kids went to Childwatch this a.m. for an hour while I worked out and then we swam for three hours in my neighbors pool. You think this would tucker a freshly minted two year old out, right? Nope. Not my little RiRi. She came home with me and played and played and played. I picked Jack and Evelyn up and headed over to the gym for their class.

The next 45 minutes go like this:

Drop Riley off. Watch Jack for 45 minutes have lots of fun. Go to pick Riley up----

Me: I'm here for Riley.
Lady: Oh- she's asleep?
Me: What?
Lady: Oh- it was the funniest thing. She climbed up on the mats in the corner, started banging against the wall, leaned over and fell asleep about 30 minutes ago.
Me: Oh- you don't know Riley- that's her MO.

(There are very few kids in Childwatch in the afternoons- in fact-- there was only one other kid in the two year old side-- so no one was bugging her).

I could not believe it. Sure enough- I walked in to pick her up and she was laid flat out on her back, passed out cold. I nudged her and she did not move. Not at all. Ridiculous.

Now she probably won't go to sleep too early tonight- a quick power nap is all she needs to stay up past 7:00. UGH!

Until next time...
