The 4th of July is always a jam-packed and exciting day around DeBordieu. We had a great time and although I don't have the pictures to upload until we get home I'll still tell you about it.
The kids (mainly Emma) spent some time on Thursday with the babysitters decorating the golf cart. It was decked out in everything red, white and blue. This year the guys (Daddy, Poppy and Uncle Jeff) were voted to ride in the parade w/ the kids (minus Riley). Riley loves to ride in the golf cart but she has to be held so it would be quite annoying to keep up w/ her for over an hour. Plus almost every singe cart/boat in the parade had some type of water gun/bucket apparatus and she could have been pummeled with water. We kept her with us and watched the parade from the sidelines.
The guys made the wise decision to bail on the parade half way through. This way we could make it to the carnival faster. The kids enjoyed a bubble bounce house (we have great pics of that), a kicked up slip and slide, tatoos, slides and bounce houses. Hopefully next year Riley can enjoy some of these things.
We ate lunch under the tent and then hit the beach. We spent about 4 1/2 hours on the beach. Lucky for me Todd doesn't like to sunbathe so he volunteered to take Riley back after lunch for a MUCH needed nap. She hasn't napped almost all week and it was catching up to her. She slept for 3 hours- the longest nap of her life. Gammy traded with Todd about halfway so he was able to join us for the second half.
Me, on the other hand, I love the beach and could easily spend my days basking in the sun, reading juicy books and probably buying myself a one-way ticket to the dermatologist. I read a big chunk of my book and enjoyed the beach. It was low tide so the kids were able to spend most of their time in small pools of water, occasionally jumping waves in the choppy ocean.
Last night we celebrated Tracy's birthday with homemade chicken fajitas and key lime pie before heading over to some friends of Steve and Gretchen's to watch the fireworks. We watched the 20 or so minute display from the third floor deck of a beautiful house overlooking the marsh. Gorgeous. It was my first fireworks in years. I usually stay back w/ sleeping babies but since Riley cranked a three hour nap she joined us.
The girls head home today to start school on Monday. They go year-round. We stay here through Thursday. Jack has his golf camp Mon-Wed. Should be interesting.
Until next time...
