Parental Influence

A little background.

Jack knows what beer is, and scotch for that matter. He's seen us drink beer with our friends and even tasted a sip out of curiosity. He has had a sip of Todd's scotch- gross- and liked it. Oh boy!

So- here's a conversation Jack and I just had in the car this morning. I'll try to repeat it word for word.

Jack: Why does Daddy take his shirt and shorts off?
Me: Huh?
J: (repeat question)
M: When does Daddy do that Jack?
J: When he goes to bed.
M: Oh- well, he sleeps in his underwear (boxers).
J: Why?
M: Because he wants to.
J: Why?
M: When you get to be an adult you can sleep in your underwear too if you want.
J: Oh thanks Mommy. When I get to be an adult I am going to drink beer and drink scotch because I like beer.
M: Oh really.
J: Yes, I really like beer. And when I get to be four years old I am going to drink chocolate milk and stop sucking my thumb and leave my Dee (his lovie) in my bed.
M: Wow Jack, that's awesome.
J: (says nothing- sits in car seat and sucks thumb- looks proud of himself).

Just another day, another interesting conversation with my child in the car.

Until next time....
