It's 7:35 and both kids are in bed; the fruits of having a three year old who doesn't nap, but still needs one from time to time, and a 9 month old who takes 2 one-hour naps a day. They both hit the sack quite early. Works for me since I like to hit the sack early myself. So here I sit at the computer, a mellow Sirius radio staion playing in the background, nothing to do (house is clean) and it's quiet. Todd's not home yet, so I am enjoying a rare moment of solidarity downstairs, listening to the pitter patter of the rain.
It's been quite yucky here today, steady drizzle and hovering around 50 degrees. WTH right? You'd think it was still winter around here and not spring. It's been so cold that our Azalea's quit blooming and the Begonias I just planted two weeks ago are a goner, along w/ some of the Petunias. And, believe it or not, our Crepe Myrtle (spelling???) was just beginning to come back and the leaves on it are dead. I wonder if it will make it? Needless to say, I'm ready for spring to return.
I head out for my first weekend away from Todd AND the kids since Jack was born. Six of us from college remain close and try to get together once a year or so. For several years those reunions consisted of weddings, showers, babies, etc... but those have slowed down and now we have to make plans to see each other. With two of us in SC, one in GA, two in the D.C. area and me in Charlotte it makes it difficult. I missed the last two, so I made sure I wasn't going to miss this one. I fly to D.C. early Friday a.m. and return Sunday afternoon. It will be a quick trip, but much needed. Jen (my friend who lives in D.C.) has organized a jam-packed trip w/ some touristy stuff combined with some yummy eats that will make for a fun weekend.
So you ask- is Todd alone all weekend w/ the kids? Not quite. My mom comes tomorrow to watch the kids all day on Friday while Todd works (and gets in a quick golf game). She'll leave on Friday night when he gets home and then it's Mr. Mom all the way. I have the utmost confidence that he'll be wonderful and probably pass out Sunday night from pure exhaustion, but they'll have a great time. I'll miss them, but I need a quick get-away to recharge my batteries. Staying home w/ kids full time is work, serious work. Nothing labor intensive mind you, but when you get NO time alone, it makes for weekends like these much needed.
I'll let you know if the house is still standing when I get back!!!
Until next time...
