Just gotta write this down so I never forget it:
"Mom. I don't want any sugar."
"What was that Riley?"
"I DON'T WANT ANY SUGAR!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me back up for a brief minute.
With the exception of night time I would say that Ri is 100% potty trained--at home. She should be since she'll be three in 6 days.
Not so fast though.
She has some deep rooted anxiety over using the bathroom in public or anyone else's house for that matter. Weird. Really weird.
The root of that deep rooted anxiety probably stems from the countless times in the middle of the night that I have fussed at her for waking me up for no reason at all. She's harboring some inner angst toward me for not giving in to her every time she's begged or pleaded for ice water, milk, a back rub, for me to sleep w/ her, etc.......
Yes. She begs in the middle of the night for all of these things. Not every night- just sometimes. Sometimes it's just for ice in her water. Other times she wants milk. And then she often wants me to rub her back. Or read her another book. Or give her a hug and a kiss. And the list goes on my friends.
And on....
And on....
And on...
I'm getting off track here- I just wanted to make sure the 4 + years I spent in college studying psychology were put to good use once in a while (since I switched in my 4th year to education).
Back to the pee-pee issue.
Ri spent the morning today over at her friend Addy's house while Jack was Vacation Bible School w/ his friends. Addy had a babysitter this a.m. and her mom said to send Ri over so the girls could play. Works for me!
I sent her in undies but told the sitter to put her pull-up on if she refused to use the bathroom after a couple of hours.
When I left I asked Ri one more time if she needed to use the restroom. "NO," she promptly told me. I reminded her that she had some Starburst in her bag if she used the potty at Addy's house. (a little bribery never hurt anyone right?)
This is when she said, "Mom. I don't want any sugar!"
It caught me off guard for a minute because my girl NEVER EVER EVER turns down sugar. She'd live off of sugar and milk if we let her.
But- the lightbulb quickly went off and I realized: Ri doesn't want sugar b/c she knows she will NOT use the restroom at Addy's. Therefore- she will not be getting any candy.
I guess she figured she'd let me know not to worry about the candy since she "didn't want it anyway."
What in the world am I going to do w/ my sweet RiRi?
Until next time...
