We made it. Ri was a trooper. I was a trooper. And we're done. Thank God. The journey wasn't easy though.
We kept Ri up until 9:00 last night, hoping it would help her sleep in. She was still up at 6:15 and immediately asked for milk and Cheerios. I held her off until we left at 7:30. I packed bag w/ some goodies in it for her to play w/ while we waiting, but we didn't need most of it. They called us back quickly to triage. This is where the fun began.
Now. She wasn't scheduled to head into surgery until 10:10 (although she didn't actuallly go back until 10:45 ish) and they put us triage at 8:45. HELLOOOO- putting a two year old in triage an hour and half before they are supposed to be ready for surgery can cause problems. It did. They needed to take her temperature and you would think they would have one of those quickie stick-in-the-ear thingies that only take 2 secs, but no, we had to do it under the arm. This set her off.
And then they tried to hook an oxygen reader on her toe. NOT- she was having NONE of that. And the robe. Fagghhetaboutit.
So-my sweet (usually) daughter RiRi turned psychotic. Seriously. I am not kidding. For the next 40 minutes she thrashed about.
Kicking.
Screaming.
Scratching.
Hitting.
Kicking.
Arching her back.
Trying many, many times to bite me.
Screaming.
All of this over and over and over again.
After about 10 minutes three nurses and I held her down to sedate her and it still took 30 more minutes for her to calm down. It was brutal. Brutal. But she made it. They took her back and 15 minutes later the Dr. came out and showed me her old tubes and told me about her extra large adnoids and how we would be so happy that we decided to take them out. Nice.
I went back and joined her as she was coming out of the anesthesia and she was thrashing about again, but this time not as bad. She just wanted the IV out of her foot. Once the nurse caved into her crying and removed her IV she was better and we were allowed to leave.Fast forward to tonight and she's been asleep for about an hour. We're giving her Tylenol every 4 hours and she's due in about 30 minutes. It might be a long night, but we'll work it out. Jack also has a cough and is taking breathing treatments so we'll see how his night goes.
Anyway- we'll see how she does tonight.
THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who called, emailed, texted and left me msgs today to check on my baby girl. It means the world to Todd and I to have such great friends and family who care.
Until next time..
