Mr. Jack

Sometimes I feel this blog is a bit Riley-heavy, but I have to remember that she is the one that is changing the most right now. Back when Jack was 1 1/2 he changed constantly. I remind myself of his changes by reading his journal that I kept until I started this blog.

Jack has done some changing as well these past months. He is growing up and it's bittersweet to me. It's hard to imagine that he could actually be in kindergarten next fall. I am so thankful that we are waiting a year b/c selfishly I want more time with him.

He is becoming more and more independent. He always wants to do things on his own. He likes to wear "handsome" shirts --- or shirts w/ collars-- because he can button them on his own. He only likes to wear his orange jacket because he can zip that one. He's been trying to tie his shoes and is light years away from doing that on his own, but he still tries.

A year ago Jack would have teared up if he had a play date at someone else's house w/o me there with him. Now- he loves it. We trade off each Tuesday with his buddy Camp and he plays more and more with friends from the neighborhood w/o me. This is a big step for Jack so we are proud.

He is big into Legos and builds the coolest things. He builds golf carts, diggers, garages for his cars, car washes, houses, boats, you name it. Now- these Lego creations are a bit on the rudimentary side, but they're workable for him and that's all that matters. Of course lots of times his little sister likes to ruin a Lego creation but we're working on that.

On the flip side Jack has had more of an attitude lately. I have a feeling it has to do with all the attention his sister demands. I can't tell her that she will have to wait while I finish with Jack- she is too young. Todd is going to take Jack to the movies this weekend, just the boys. It will be good for him.

We've been trying to get him to stop sucking his thumb. It's a daily struggle and he is finally realizing that he needs to stop. It's just instinct for him. He'll get there.

Until next time...
