This one is for all of my friends who have two or more kids. You'll understand best what I am about to write about.
We all remember when we had our first and they began to hit milestones: crawling, eating baby food, walking, potty training, feeding themselves, sippy cups, first words, etc. etc. etc. There are some that are more memorable than others but they're all special in some way.
I can remember dying for Jack to eat baby food because I wanted to use that cute little spoon with rubber wrapped around it. Poor thing, I was feeding him cereal before he could sit. I can remember thinking that Jack would never eat with a spoon the right way. I can remember, vividly I'm afraid, potty training (it's well documented on this blog).
Well, with my second, it's been different. I took FOREVER to wean her off the bottle. She was 15 months before that thing hit the trash. (Jack weaned himself at 9 months so a walking toddler who still drank from a bottle was a bit weird for me.) I gave Jack a spoon early on and taught him how to use it over and over and over, getting very frustrated. I am not sure if it's just sheer laziness or what, but if Riley could talk clearly she would have asked for silverware long ago. She often tries to take mine when I eat next to her and she loves for me to put her food on the end of a fork so she can feed herself. I have been dreading the whole spoon/yogurt/applesauce thing because it makes such a mess. The last thing I want to do is let her feed herself with a spoon after she's been dressed for the day.
So this morning I was eating my yogurt and Riley was pitching a fit for some. I put some on my spoon and put it by her mouth. She grabbed the spoon from me and took over (girl knows what she wants). Next thing you know she's "asking" for my yogurt. She was still in her pj's so I said, "What the hell."
This video captures it all.
I was so impressed with her. I only ate about 5-6 bites of the entire thing and she polished off the rest by herself. She was a bit messy, but nothing a warm paper towel couldn't fix. I tried applesauce with dinner tonight and she didn't do that bad, that is until she decided she was done with it and picked up a handful of applesauce and chucked it on the floor for Kody (her MO when she's done).
Wonders never cease with our little RiRi.
Until next time...
