Evolution of TV viewing

Recently Jack has gotten into two new PBS shows, Super Why and Word World. They are these little cartoons that actually help kids learn to spell words and read them. They do it in such a way that the kids don't actually realize they are 'learning' something. So we DVR them on all the TVs and when I'm trying to cook dinner or take a quick shower I'll put one on for him to watch.

The other day I was driving down the road thinking about these shows (don't ask me why) and I began to think about all the different shows he's been into the last few years. Here's a look back:

1st year: Baby Einstein videos, especially Baby Neptune- the water one.

2nd year: still watched those Einstein videos but also got into A Big Big World,
Bear and the Big Blue House and a little bit of Sesame Street. Thomas the Train and Bob the Builder were also big hits in our house during this time.

3rd year: this was the year of change. He would become obsessed with a show and watch it over and over for weeks or months and then start over with something new. These include:
  • Dora, the Explorer
  • Go, Diego Go
  • Little Einsteins
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Oh- and movies became a hit at this age. At the age of three he loved Chicken Little, Finding Nemo (HUGE hit), Cars (even BIGGER hit), Shrek, and others.

4th year: Jack was introduced to the cartoon Backyardigans by his buddy Camp and we watched this silly show (really for younger ones) over and over. He loved it for months.

We also finally got some more movies so he's been into Monster's Inc., Bugs Life, and Ratatouille a lot lately too.

He's upstairs watching a Super Why now with Paa Paa before he hits the sack.

Until next time...
