Note to self: Never, ever leave your wallet in the car, even if you think the car is locked.
So...this is what happened to me yesterday.
We (the kids and I) left the house a little before 10 and hit the pet store to get Kody some dog food (paid w/ debit card.)
Then we went to the gym b/c Jack has a tumbling class at 10:45 on Tuesdays. I thought I'd take RiRi to the childwatch and get a quick workout in while Jack was in class. So, I grabbed Riley's school backpack w/ her dipes and change of clothes in it and threw my diaper bag (w/ wallet) on the floor of the car and headed in. Normally I have the stroller and my diaper bag (w/ wallet) w/ me, not this time.
I ALWAYS lock my car too, but maybe it didn't lock this time, or maybe I just forgot, who knows. But- while I was in the YMCA for a whopping 50 plus minutes someone got into my car, opened my diaper bag, opened my wallet and took my debit card and American Express card and proceeded to hit 5 Targets in the greater Charlotte area within the next two hours.
Grand Total: almost $1000.00 on my Wachovia card before they were declined b/c of suspicious spending and a WHOPPING $3790.02 on my brand new American Express card (we got them one month ago).
Sweet.
They got gas, perused all the Targets and even hit up a Staples for over a grand. I bet they just got big ticket items b/c they did it quick, no time for shopping. Thank God Wachovia called me to verify the charges otherwise it might have kept going. Ugh.
Anyway- we've gotten it all squared away and filed fraud claims w/ both cards.
Needless to say I won't do that again.
Until next time...
