We decided to brave the cold and crowds and head downtown (or uptown if you want to be geographically correct) for the annual St. Patty's Day parade and festival this weekend.
We had plans to meet two other couples and their kids for the start of the parade, but we were backed up a bit. The most random thing happened to us Friday night. Todd's cousin Karl and his wife and three kids were in FL vacationing and flying back to RI, where they live Friday night. Seems the snowstorms in the NE decided to derail their plans. They ended up spending Friday night at our house and renting a car Saturday to drive across NC to take an Amtrack north. Crazy, but it was great to see them. After Todd dropped them off at car rental place he rushed home and we hopped in the car and made it downtown to see most of the parade.
It was a cute parade, nothing fancy, lots of local bands and cheerleaders. My favorite part was the bagpipers, brought back memories of our wedding. We made it down to the festival and I was actually quite surprised at how small of an area it was in. Plus, there were tons of people, so it made it seem quite smaller. We waited in line FOREVER for lunch and then scarfed it down while trying to appease three year olds and Riley. Jack was happy once he was able to get a popsicle, in the 45 degree weather. We topped off the festival by hitting the carousel. Jack loved it. It was worth it.
We finished off St. Patty's weekend with corned beef and cabbage last night. Yumm. Now it's time to start thinking about Easter baskets!
Until next time...
