The mind of a three year old

I swear, if my brain could instantly write down every cute/not so cute thing that Jack does I could publish a book. So many times during the day I find myself giggling or wondering what the hell he is thinking, but at the end of the day I can't remember most of them when I think about our day.

So I am going to try and compile a little list, just for old times sake, and then I will at least have some of his idiosyncrasies written down.

1. Today, we're riding in the car and he asks me, "Mommy, does the outside have toilets?"
Of course I told him no and he wanted to know why. Why? Why? Why? There is a why for everything these days. Yet, if I say, "Just because," or, "Because I said so," he'll usually stop.

2. His way of telling me that a friend can't (or he doesn't want them to) play with his toy is saying, "Mommy, (insert any friend here) doesn't like playing with firetrucks. He/she likes to play with old cars." His "old" cars are the ones he'll willingly share, not the fancy trucks. Humm- I wonder if his friends would agree. Not.

3. He is so completely gentle and loving to his sister it amazes me. On the days that he actually pays her any attention he will snuggle up to her and say, "Hi Riley" over and over. Not one time has he ever been mean to her. I know those days are numbered.

4. If there is something that he wants, (i.e. sip of soda, candy, etc.) he'll tell us, "Mommy/Daddy, my Dee wants a candy cane." (Dee is his stuffed dog that goes with him everywhere.) Now, we know good and well that he is the one that wants the candy, but he tells us that his Dee wants it.

5. He is beginning to recognize letters when we are out and about. Of course the old teacher in me LOVES this. I find it super cute when we drive by a Wendy's and he'll say, "Hey, I see a W Mom." Or he'll ask me, "Who else starts with a J?"

6. He is obsessed with poop. Yes, he still poops in a diaper, that's not what I am talking about. After we change his diaper he ALWAYS wants to see it. And then after he sees it he'll say, "Yuck. I don't want to see my poopy." Yeah, sure you don't Jack. That's why you get upset if I throw it out before you get to see it.

7. Watching kids learn about time (days, months, etc.) is amazing. Up until recently if anything had already happened Jack would say, "Mommy, did we hit a deer yesterday?" Everything that had previously happened, happened yesterday. I would always quietly correct him by saying, "Yes Jack, we hit a deer a few months ago." So lately, he's been saying things like:

"Did so-and-so get in trouble at the park a few months ago?" - happened last week.

"Was Kody and bad boy last week?" - happened last night.

It's super cute to watch him try to figure these out. One day he'll get it.

Until next time...
